Hello! I’m Faye (Yuanfei) Zhang, a bilingual Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in New York. I specialize in perinatal and reproductive mental health, supporting people through pregnancy, postpartum adjustment, fertility challenges, pregnancy loss, reproductive health decisions, and the emotional transitions that can accompany becoming—or trying to become—a parent.
My clinical experience in an OB/GYN setting has given me a particular understanding of how emotional health, relationships, identity, culture, and reproductive experiences can intersect. I also work with college students, immigrants, and adults navigating anxiety, depression, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, and major life transitions.
My approach is gentle, collaborative, and client-centered. I believe therapy works best when you do not feel rushed to explain yourself, solve everything immediately, or fit your experience into someone else’s expectations. I have training in Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) and advanced training in perinatal mental health. Together, we can explore the emotions beneath the surface, understand what you need, and identify patterns that may be keeping you feeling stuck.
As a Mandarin-speaking therapist, I also recognize that culture is not separate from mental health. Family expectations, immigration experiences, relationships, language, identity, and cultural values can all influence how we understand ourselves and what we believe we are allowed to need. Therapy can be a place where all of these parts of your experience are welcome.

You do not need to have everything figured out before coming to therapy. We can begin with your story and move at a pace that feels right for you.
— Faye Zhang, LMHC
What kinds of clients do you especially enjoy working with?
I have a particular interest in working with people navigating pregnancy, postpartum life, fertility challenges, pregnancy loss, and reproductive health decisions. These experiences can bring complicated emotions that are not always easy to talk about openly. I also enjoy working with college students, immigrants, and people moving through significant transitions in their lives.
What can someone expect when beginning therapy with you?
Our first sessions are about getting to know you rather than expecting you to arrive with everything figured out. I want to understand your story, what has been difficult, and what matters to you. We will move at your pace and gradually develop a clearer understanding of what you would like to change.
How do you approach pregnancy and postpartum mental health?
Pregnancy and the postpartum period can involve significant emotional, relational, physical, and identity changes. My professional experience in an OB/GYN setting has allowed me to work closely with people experiencing perinatal mood and anxiety concerns, reproductive loss, relationship difficulties, and other challenges surrounding pregnancy and postpartum life.
I approach these experiences with sensitivity to both their psychological and medical context. Therapy can provide a place to talk openly about experiences that may be difficult to discuss elsewhere, including complicated or conflicting feelings about pregnancy, parenting, fertility, loss, relationships, and identity.
How do you support clients after miscarriage, pregnancy loss, or stillbirth?
Reproductive loss can involve grief, sadness, anger, guilt, uncertainty, relationship strain, or emotions that are difficult to name. People may also encounter cultural, family, or social expectations about how they are “supposed” to respond.
Therapy provides space to process the experience without imposing a particular timeline or way of grieving. We can explore both the loss itself and the ways it may affect relationships, identity, future decisions, and your sense of safety or trust.
What is your therapy style?
My style is gentle, collaborative, and client-centered. My training in Emotion-Focused Therapy influences how I listen for the emotions and needs underneath what is happening on the surface.
Rather than rushing toward solutions, we can slow down enough to understand your emotional experience and the patterns that may be contributing to feeling stuck. Therapy is something we do together, and we will move at a pace that respects where you are.
How does culture enter your work as a bilingual Mandarin-speaking therapist?
Culture can shape how we understand family, relationships, achievement, independence, emotions, parenting, and even the idea of seeking therapy.
For immigrants and people living between cultures, different expectations can sometimes coexist or conflict. You may find yourself balancing your own needs with family expectations, navigating differences between generations, or trying to make sense of who you are across different cultural environments.
I welcome conversations about culture, language, family expectations, immigration, and identity without assuming that any one cultural experience applies to everyone. You do not need to leave an important part of yourself outside the therapy room.
Do you work with immigrants and international students?
Yes. In addition to my work in reproductive and perinatal mental health, I have experience supporting immigrants and college students through significant life transitions.
Living away from your home culture can bring opportunities as well as loneliness, uncertainty, family pressure, identity questions, relationship changes, and the challenge of belonging to more than one cultural world. Therapy can provide space to explore these experiences without requiring you to simplify them.
Do you provide online therapy in New York?
Yes. I provide online therapy and telehealth psychotherapy for clients located throughout New York State. Virtual therapy can be particularly useful for people searching for a Mandarin-speaking therapist in New York or a therapist with experience in pregnancy, postpartum mental health, reproductive loss, immigration, and cross-cultural concerns.
