Frequently Asked Questions

How do I become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Texas?

An LMSW will have to obtain 3,000 clinical work hours (averaging at least 30 hours a week) and 100 supervision hours in no less than a 24 month period. After submitting these forms to the Board, you will be eligible to sit for the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) clinical exam to achieve your license.

How often do I have to meet with my clinical supervisor?

The board suggests meeting with your supervisor a minimum of 4 hours per month, and we break this up into two (2) hour sessions per month. At this rate, you will obtain your 100 hours in 2 years. The board will allow up to 10 hours of supervision per month.

Is supervision via teleconferencing approved by the Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners?

Yes! This is an approved method of facilitating individual or group supervision.
